What You Need to Know About Internet Banner Advertisements

If you have spent any time surfing the web, you have probably seen those rectangular advertisements that appear on many different web pages. They may be small, medium or large, filled with text or colorful graphics. They vary in appearance and in subject matter. They are, of course, Banner Ads!

A banner ad is very similar to traditional ads that you would see in any printed publication. It does, however, have the ability to take that viewer directly to your website. This is something that printed media can not offer! Your ad can be very simple and feature one static image or it can display multiple images in succession that create an animation effect. There are also ads that will utilize audio and video and can be interactive in addition to having the linking functionality.

To create an effective banner ad, there are a few qualities that appear to work best.
  • Post your ads on pages that have related web content.
  • Advertise a specific product or service
  • Use simple messages
  • Keep the ad size small
  • Use an animated ad instead of a static ad

The idea is to get your message to your prospective customers without making them wait for the ad. If there is too much data in your ad, it will take too long to load and you could lose your visitors. Make sure your ad is visually appealing and has interesting content. It needs to be exposed to audiences that are interested in your products or services.

So how do you know if your ad is a success? If a visitor comes to your site, the ad was good. If that visitor becomes a customer, that ad is GREAT! This is not to say that every person that sees your ad is going to go to your site or if they do, they may not make a purchase at that time. The visitor may see your ad and note the content of your banner ad and visit your site at a later date. You need to make sure the reader becomes aware of your products or services. There is no definite recipe as to what will make a good banner ad and there is no sure way to predict how well your ad will do. Most banner ad successes result from a number of different factors including extensive trial and error and experimentation.

Over the years, we have seen many articles as to the death of the banner ad while other articles tout the increases in banner ad successes. We think that banner ads will be around for quite some time but will most likely take on new and interesting forms. Since internet advertising is one of the main sources of revenue for the web, you can be assured that banner advertising will be around as it continues to evolve.
